Tom Robertson. A musician. A spiritual singer. A songwriter. These are some of the adjectives that we can use to describe him. But one main question remains: who he is? To some of you, introduction is necessary, as this amazing singer will entice you with his beautiful songs.
This Manchester lad comes from the United Kingdom, the land of amazing music. The Beatles, Queens, Adele to name a few. Inspired from this, this husky voiced lad set out to create some of the best songs based on his spiritual aspect, and combining it with the elements of rock. You can actually feel the positivity and spirituality emanating from his first album. That is what Tom Robertson is aiming with his second album, with songs such as “Ignorant Minds” and “My Love”, where these songs, according to Tom Robertson have “a profound effect to the people through positive tones and lyrics”.
This form of mixture is what Tom calls “spiritique”, combining rock and positive message is what brought Sami Yusuf and Tom Robertson together to collaborate and combine the elements of the West and Sami’s Middle Eastern elements. Due to the difference in the rhythm and the notes, this pose a little problem, but these unique elements have made it possible to bring out the positive messages through and inspiring the listeners, regardless of religious beliefs and ages, to be the best of their lives.
Listening to the live version of “Ignorant Minds”, one can safely say that Tom Robertson with co-collaborator John have managed to convey the message of peace and love, of heart-warming songs that are fast disappearing in the mainstream media, as more and more songs are just of empty lyrics and void of emotions. In other words, we can feel the resemblances to how nasheed songs inspire others to be good and be mindful of others. But one must remember, in this current and previous albums, Tom Robertson is just incorporating the nasheed element, not making nasheed songs. Tom insisted on his interview on BBC that his songs are of spiritual connection, much like nasheed, but not a nasheed song.
Being in Adente Records also further allowed the chance for Tom and Sami Yusuf to meet and make the collaborations in the second album, with the vision of spiritual elements. In other words, prepare for Tom Robertson’s second album “One Simple Thought” and let Tom immerse you in the spiritual and rock elements as an inspiration to lead a more positive and fulfilling life! It is coming soon!
